Planning a wedding... where to start?!

Updated: Oct 16, 2019

Planning a wedding can be a turbulent mix of fun, excitement and stress (plus maybe a few tears?). While we don't proclaim to be experts, having worked within the industry and having planned our own wedding (and from another state!) we definitely feel like we can offer up a few tips to get you started and help with the organisation.

Lists, Lists and more lists

I'm guessing you know what our first tip is! Lists are a great idea, get our ideas down on paper, make sure you don't forget anything and get the satisfaction of being able to tick off your completed tasks.

We find starting with a guest list is a great idea, then you know what size venue you will need. From there make a list of all suppliers you will need to research.

Work out a budget early on. This can be a hard part because often our ideas don't always match our budget. If you find that you're having trouble keeping within your budget it could be helpful to go back over your supplier list and wish list and work out what is most important to you. Whether it be having your heart set a particular location, the dress being the thing you choose to splurge on or the photographer being the number 1 thing. If you have the time, look at which aspects you may be able to DIY... Pinterest can be your best friend on this one!

But just remember that no matter what your budget is, you can still have a beautiful and special wedding.

Give yourself enough time

With weddings being such a big and busy industry, suppliers can book up very quickly. It can definitely be to your advantage, if you have this kind of time on your side, to give yourself at least 12 months in advance. Giving yourself a bit of breathing space will hopefully help minimise stress, help with saving money up and also ensure you don't miss out on booking suppliers you had your heart on

Word of mouth

Word of mouth is a fantastic way to find wedding suppliers, ask friends, family and work mates and don't hesitate to quiz your other wedding suppliers! Once you've started booking suppliers ask them if they have a recommended supplier list, they may be able to provide you with a list of reliable suppliers.
